Laboratory of Ecological Genetics and Plant Selection

The main laboratory’s objective is to study the possibility for the preservation of the world’s potato genetic resources under the conditions of the virus-free zone of Gornyi Altai through:   

• using the world’s genetic resources of Vavilov's seed collection to develop potato varieties of new generation;

• conducting field study under high mountain conditions to reveal an ecological niche free of viruses and other diseases;

• testing Russian and foreign potato varieties and evaluating their ability to adapt to severe conditions of Gornyi Altai in order to find the best ones to be used in the ecological niche of the Altai Republic;

• implementing various programs for developing valuable potato genetic resources resistant to unfavorable biotic and abiotic factors, and others.
